Donald Trump has already lost two defamation suits brought against him by magazine writer E. Jean Carroll, and he may be in for a third one after his Memorial Day attack on the woman who he was found to have sexually assaulted.

Trump on Monday posted a lengthy attack labeled as a Memorial Day post.

"Happy Memorial Day to All, including the Human Scum that is working so hard to destroy our Once Great Country, & to the Radical Left, Trump Hating Federal Judge in New York that presided over, get this, TWO separate trials, that awarded a woman, who I never met before (a quick handshake at a celebrity event, 25 years ago, doesn't count!), 91 MILLION DOLLARS for 'DEFAMATION,'" he wrote, referring to Carroll's cases.

The New York Times' Maggie Haberman, who has spent a significant amount of time with Trump and continues to have sources closes to the ex-president's campaign, followed up on that.

"After Trump, who arrived in NY last night, attacked E Jean Carroll again on Truth Social today, her lawyer Roberta Kaplan says, 'We have said several times since the last jury verdict in January that all options were on the table. And that remains true today -- all options are on the table," Haberman reported on Monday.

A commenter replied to Haberman, saying, "Maggie- we have lost a lot of faith in you as a journalist. I am a very honest person and what we learned from the Trump trial was disheartening to say the least! It may take a very long time to build back trust. I can’t speak for all, but many feel this way. I won’t lie to anyone and if I error in some way, I own it. Completely own it and correct it."

This prompted pushback from conservative lawyer George Conway and Trump biographer David Cay Johnston.

"I’m sorry, but this is just complete nonsense, and reflects a lack of understanding about journalism. A vast amount of the negative information we know about Trump, his administration, and his minions, comes from Maggie’s reporting," Conway said. "I sat through the part of [Michael] Cohen’s cross-examination that mentioned her, and there was nothing untoward about her handling of him or anyone else."

Johnston added:

"You clearly don't understand the role of journalists. Maggie has done extraordinary work in getting Donald to say things. That's her job. There's plenty of places for polemics, rants, and other opinion, but Maggie is a reporter, one of the finest I've ever known."
