'I think': £35m Liverpool player thinks Arne Slot arriving will be 'good for his career'

We’re getting ever closer to finding out who the winners and losers from Arne Slot’s appointment at Liverpool will be.

After so much build-up, Slot will officially arrive on Merseyside this weekend to start his Liverpool career.

It is a little bit of a leap of faith from the Reds, but anyone following on from Jurgen Klopp would have been. All in all, Slot seems poised to be a very good hire.

Part of the reason there should be confidence over the Dutchman joining is because of the quality Klopp has left him in the Liverpool squad.

The Reds have players who can go up another level under Slot. And speaking while away on international duty this week, one of those potential-laden stars has explained why he can’t wait to work with the new boss at the AXA Training Centre.

Ryan Gravenberch hails Arne Slot appointment

With Liverpool players away on holiday, we haven’t heard too much in the way of comment about Slot.

Trent Alexander-Arnold did say a few words recently, but the right-back didn’t go into too much detail. Meanwhile, Virgil van Dijk has also briefly commented on Slot.

And, now away with the Netherlands national team, Van Dijk has opened up a little more on the 45-year-old via ESPN.

The outlet also carry quotes from Ryan Gravenberch, who had a mixed first season at Anfield.

Now 22, Gravenberch is clearly hoping that the arrival of his countryman will see him fulfil his mighty potential.

“I think he can be good for my career, it’s a coach who wants to play good football,” raved the Liverpool midfielder.

What did Virgil van Dijk say?

While more will be expected from Gravenberch as he grows into his role at Liverpool, Van Dijk is also set for a massive role under Slot.

With some speculation over his future, the Reds captain has moved to quell that. Quite obviously, Van Dijk is going nowhere between now and the closing of the transfer window.

“I still have a year left on my contract. I am club captain and I have made it clear I am there for the new coach and enthusiastic over the next season,” said the 32-year-old.

“Obviously, there will be a lot of changes but I am confident we will make a big success of it.”

Van Dijk also confirmed that he’d spoken to Slot personally and was looking forward to seeing what comes next.

“I congratulated him of course and I’m really pleased for him and his family,” he explained. “We spoke about the team and the future, but now my focus is fully on the national team.”
