Report: Enzo Maresca wants former Chelsea player as part of backroom staff at Stamford Bridge

Enzo Maresca is set to take over at Chelsea and knows who he wants as part of his backroom staff.

It was claimed on Monday that Enzo Maresca was the man who Chelsea had turned to as they look to replace Mauricio Pochettino.

The Blues have been without a manager since last Tuesday following Pochettino’s exit.

The Argentine left Stamford Bridge by mutual consent after just one season in west London.

He is now expected to be replaced by Maresca, who recently guided Leicester City back to the Premier League.

Enzo Maresca’s potential coaching team at Chelsea

Maresca is already thinking about his backroom staff at Chelsea, indicating how close he is to getting the job.

According to the Daily Mail, the Italian wants to bring up to five members of staff with him to Stamford Bridge.

One of those members will be a familiar name to Chelsea supporters.

The Daily Mail’s report states that former Chelsea goalkeeper Willy Caballero, Maresca’s current No.2 at Leicester, is one man he wants to bring with him.

Chelsea fans would welcome Willy Caballero back to Stamford Bridge

Caballero played for Chelsea from 2017 to 2021 after arriving from Premier League rivals Manchester City on a free transfer.

During his time at the club, he won the Champions League, Europa League and FA Cup.

Being part of a successful Chelsea team, fans will surely welcome the Argentine back should he arrive alongside Maresca.

The pair’s aim will be to get Chelsea back into the Champions League. That has to be the club’s main objective after they missed out on qualification again this term.

And following Manchester United’s FA Cup final win against City over the weekend, they will not even be competing in the Europa League next season.

The Europa Conference League, which is nowhere as strong as its two sister competitions, represents a great chance for Maresca to win silverware at Chelsea, however.
