Kharkiv Epicenter attack: Police identify man's body by his son's DNA

Police have identified the body of a 38-year-old man who was killed during a Russian army bombing of the Epicenter hypermarket through the DNA of his eight-year-old son, citing the Kharkiv region police.

"The body of the deceased was identified last night through DNA analysis taken from the boy," the statement said.

According to the press service, the child and his mother came to the headquarters of the investigative department, which was set up near the destroyed supermarket, on May 26. The boy had been waiting for his father to return from work. After hearing about the tragedy, they came to the police the next day.

According to the police, the 38-year-old Oleksandr worked at the supermarket and was killed on May 25, when the Russians bombed the supermarket in the middle of the workday, dropping two bombs.

As of 06:00, out of the 17 deceased, police have identified 16 bodies. Search operations are ongoing.

As a reminder, on May 25 around 16:00, the Russian army carried out bombing strikes on the Epicenter construction hypermarket in Kharkiv, after which a large fire broke out. More details about the attack can be found in RBC-Ukraine's report.
