‘My understanding’: Alan Myers explains what John Textor plans to do with Everton after new takeover update

Everton have enjoyed a fresh twist in their takeover saga, late on in the month.

It was well-documented that 777 Partners’ last chance to stump up the necessary funds to buy the Toffees was nearing, and yet if anything we have never seen so little from them.

There were no appearances at Goodison Park to try and put on a strong facade, nor was there another desperate and large cash injection to try and make the club more reliant on their services.

By all accounts, John Wander and co have much bigger fish to fry than buying a football club in England, such is their internal financial struggles.

So, with their main suitor falling to the wayside, it was refreshing to see Crystal Palace’s John Textor make an Everton takeover claim.

Alan Myers issues fresh John Textor update

The latest on his efforts to acquire the club come courtesy of Alan Myers, who once again has sought to inform fans on the most important current events happening in and around Goodison Park.

However, when it comes to takeovers, there is arguably no more important update.

After all, Farhad Moshiri has proven what poor leadership can do to a once stable and secure Premier League club, regressing them to within an inch of their life across just seven years.

But with Textor’s claims, that does seem set to come to an end, as Myers first wrote: ‘Crystal Palace part owner John Textor is stepping up his bid to buy Everton and is thought to be the front runner to buy Moshiri’s shareholding. Textor told the Athletic over the weekend that he would be interested in buying the club and he was trying to sell his stake in Palace.’

Then claiming that the American is not alone in showing an interest in Everton, one fan questioned whether he would be going at this bid alone or with a consortium.

The Sky Sports reporter replied: ‘My understanding is he buys the club.’

Everton’s 777 Partners nightmare finally ends soon

As the 31st of May finally draws to a close, so too does this miserable saga involving 777 Partners and their desperate attempts to buy Everton.

The Miami-based firm were scrutinised from minute one by many in and around the club, and in the end, their shady practices and lack of financial backing proved pivotal as they tried for nine months and ultimately ended up with nothing.

Now, we await Textor’s bid, despite there still being plenty of barriers to his entry.

He will first have to sell his stake in Crystal Palace before he can move across the Premier League, and then outbid any other potential suitors who may emerge after 777 Partners’ exclusivity agreement ends.

It will not be smooth sailing, but it at least marks the eventual and much-needed end to a saga that has consumed their entire Premier League season, and wrought no rewards.
