'Delight to watch': Colin Fray thinks £10.4m star has been class for Nottingham Forest

Colin Fray has heaped praise on one Nottingham Forest star with the dust starting to settle on the 2023/24 campaign.

The Reds managed to remain in the Premier League and they will now get a third crack at the top division.

It was a bit of a slog the 2023/24 season, with VAR decisions, a four-point deduction and a managerial change all making for a bumpy time of things.

Still, there were some positives and lots of the recruitment done by the club in the summer was pretty impressive.

There were of course some errors – most notably the signing of two ordinary goalkeepers – but in large Forest learned some lessons.

Fray has now picked out one man for praise during a recent appraisal of the campaign that has just finished.

What Colin Fray has said about Forest star Murillo

The Brazilian defender has been in sensational form during the 2023/24 campaign and was rightly named the Player of the Year.

Forest fought off competition from Manchester City to land Murillo and he’s proved unbelievable value for money at £10.4 million.

Now, Fray has heaped praise on the left-sided player who is being linked to several Premier League clubs ahead of the transfer window.

The commentator told the BBC Sport: “The Brazilian defender cost around £11 million after only playing 13 senior games in his career.

“He’s been a delight to watch, and has hugely increased his value in just one season.”

Forest face challenge to keep top player

According to Who Scored, Murillo made more successful dribbles than any other central defender in the Premier League last season.

He’s showcased a style of defending that, no offence to Forest, will naturally alert bigger clubs to his services.

Murillo was also in the top 10 for accurate long passes during the 2023/24 campaign.

As a result, Forest are going to face a fight to keep hold of Murillo this summer with bigger clubs circling the City Ground.

The Forest recruitment team deserve a large amount of praise for this deal.

They often get bashed for some of the duds that have been added but at just shy of £11 million, Forest will stand to make a huge profit if they do sell Murillo.
