'Mark my words': Fabrizio Romano shares what Chelsea have planned to do this summer after Enzo Maresca arrives

Chelsea are on the verge of appointing Enzo Maresca as their new manager, and the Blues have already readied their plans for the summer window.

Mauricio Pochettino left Stamford Bridge a couple of days after the end of the Premier League season. He only stayed at the helm for a year as the Blues boss.

Chelsea have been on the hunt for a new manager since, and all signs point towards Maresca becoming the next head coach of the club.

Fabrizio Romano shares Chelsea’s summer transfer plans under Enzo Maresca

Chelsea have spent a crazy amount of money since Clearlake and Todd Boehly took over the club – over £1 billion (Daily Mail).

The results on the pitch, however, don’t justify that at all.

The Blues finished 12th in the 2022/23 season and after a very strong end to the following campaign, they ended up in sixth under Pochettino.

Now, a new boss – Enzo Maresca – is set to come in, and he would surely want to sign a few new players himself to bolster the squad.

Fabrizio Romano has now revealed what has already been planned at Stamford Bridge ahead of the upcoming summer transfer window.

The journalist believes Chelsea will be really active this summer and has tipped them to sign as many as five new players before the window shuts in August.

That includes a new goalkeeper, one or two central defenders, a striker and possibly even a winger.

Romano said in a video on his YouTube channel: “Mark my words, it will be a busy summer at Chelsea. Chelsea will try to make smart things, not completely crazy but smart things, including, for example, a goalkeeper. I expect Chelsea to go for a goalkeeper.

“They will be busy with defenders, at least one centre-back, could be two. I expect Chelsea to be busy, of course, with the striker position.

“I mentioned many times Benjamin Sesko. Let’s see what Chelsea will do in that race with Leipzig still trying to keep the player and other clubs interested including Arsenal and Man United. But Sesko is still highly rated at Chelsea.

“(There) could be also a winger.”

Predicting the four players Chelsea will sign this summer

Football is a funny game and anything can happen in the transfer window.

Chelsea have shown over the last two years that they will spend the big bucks to bolster their squad, and we’re sure they won’t be against doing that this time as well, as long as FFP and PSR rules allow them to.

However, Romano expects a ‘smart’ approach from the Blues this time, so here’s one player we think Chelsea will sign for each of the positions they’re targeting.

Goalkeeper

Chelsea have been linked with a number of goalkeepers recently, including Arsenal star Aaron Ramsdale. The Englishman is expected to leave this summer, and we think he would be an upgrade on what the Blues have right now.

Centre-back

Chelsea have made a late move to sign Tosin Adarabioyo from Fulham. The talented centre-half is available on a free transfer, and the Blues are trying to get him ahead of Newcastle United.

Winger

Michael Olise is a player Chelsea tried to sign and failed in the past. TBR Football exclusively revealed earlier in May that the Blues are still really keen to sign the talented Crystal Palace winger.

Striker

Fabrizio Romano mentioned Benjamin Sesko above, but we have a feeling Chelsea will seal a deal for Victor Osimhen instead. It has been claimed that the Napoli man wants to move to Stamford Bridge this summer.
