‘Almost there’: Fabrizio Romano shares latest update on Enzo Maresca to Chelsea this morning

Fabrizio Romano has shared the latest on Leicester City boss Enzo Maresca’s proposed move to Chelsea.

The Blues are closing in on the appointment of Enzo Maresca after Mauricio Pochettino’s departure last week.

Chelsea have wasted no time in finding their man following Pochettino’s exit by mutual consent.

Maresca has emerged as the favoured candidate after likes of Brentford boss Thomas Frank, Ipswich Town’s Kieran McKenna and former Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi were also under consideration.

With Maresca in line to land the job at Stamford Bridge, Romano has shared the latest on the Italian’s switch to west London.

Maresca to Chelsea latest

Romano took to X on Tuesday morning and claimed that a deal for Maresca to join Chelsea is ‘almost there’.

Maresca apparently has ‘no doubts’ about making the switch and a contract agreement is almost in place.

His backroom staff are also being finalised while Chelsea remain in contact with Leicester over a compensation fee for the Italian boss.

“Enzo Maresca has no doubts on Chelsea job, the agreement on contract is almost done and details of his staff are being finalised,” Romano wrote.

“Chelsea and Leicester City, in contact to agree on the compensation fee package for manager and staff. Almost there.”

Chelsea aiming to repeat Mikel Arteta trick

Maresca is widely regarded as an exciting up-and-coming manager but it is a surprise to see him land such a big job so early in his career.

After a short spell at Parma back in 2021, the 44-year-old was Pep Guardiola’s assistant for a year before taking over Leicester last summer.

With just 17 months of management experience under his belt, there will be doubts over his readiness for a top job in the Premier League.

Yet, Mikel Arteta has enjoyed a brilliant spell at Arsenal after also working under Guardiola.

The Spaniard had never managed before taking over from Unai Emery back in 2019 but has the Gunners competing for league titles now.

Chelsea will certainly hope Maresca makes a similar impact at Stamford Bridge but the Italian boss is likely to need time and patience, something Arteta has had in abundance in North London.
