Report: European outfit could now move for manager Nottingham Forest sacked in 2020

A manager sacked by Nottingham Forest in 2020 is now on the shortlist for a top job in Ligue 1.

The Reds had been through a number of managers before settling onSteve Cooper during the 2021/22 campaign.

As they say, the rest is history.

Although Cooper has now departed, he was the man to bring Premier League football back to the City Ground and the sacking culture appears a thing of the past.

Nuno Espirito Santo is now in place on Trentside and hopefully, he can get the team reshaped and moving in the right direction next season.

For one former Forest boss, however, his next job could be a big one.

Lille place Sabri Lamouchi on managerial shortlist

According to L’Equipe, Sabri Lamouchi is now on the managerial shortlist to replace Paulo Fonseca should he leave.

It’s been claimed thatFonseca is set to be appointed as the new manager at AC Milan and a vacancy is set to arise.

Lamouchi is widely regarded as the man who helped unite a fan base when he was at Forest.

He replaced Martin O’Neill and despite a pragmatic playing style, he helped the club claim some really big results.

It was a shame how things ended for Lamouchi, with Forest missing out on the play-offs during a pandemic-halted campaign of 2019/20.

He then lost four games on the trot the season after and was subsequently replaced by Chris Hughton.

Lamouchi finished his tenure at Forest with a 36% win ratio from his 55 matches in charge and he’s managed Al-Duhail and Cardiff since leaving the club.

Fonseca will be tough act to follow for Lamouchi

This could prove to be a tough gig for Lamouchi if the former Forest man does get the nod.

Lille have just finished fourth in Ligue 1 and he will be managing in the Champions League albeit at the qualifying stage.

It would be Lamouchi’s biggest gig to date and the benchmark would be very high.

However, he’s a very proud man and as he proved at Forest, Lamouchi is great at bringing people together and uniting a fan base.

His style might be a change of pace for Lille, with Fonseca renowned for pretty attacking football.

That might not be something Lamouchi chooses to do and it would be fascinating to see how the former Forest incumbent goes if he gets the job.
