Sir Keir Starmer feels Manchester City have a player who has always been quite underrated.

Sir Keir Starmer says one Man City star’s always been “underestimated”

The Three Lions seem best-placed, alongside France to win the competition.

The hope amongst England supporters would be that this group of players take one step further from Euro 2020 and win the final this year.

In an interview with The Standard, Sir Keir Starmer named the position Phil Foden would suit in an England shirt.

He said: “I quite like the number 10 for Phil Foden.”

“He’s been one of the outstanding City players this year.”

Sir Keir Starmer feels Phil Foden has always been quite underappreciated, saying: “I’ve always thought he is an underestimated player so I would like to see more of him and in that role.”

Recently, Gareth Southgate revealed that he would like the 24-year-old to get into central areas as much as possible.

Phil Foden has certainly been underestimated for England

Sir Keir Starmer raises a valid point about Phil Foden.

In our view, in the England set-up in particular, Manchester City’s number 47 seems to be quite underestimated.

Foden has yet to be given a regular starting spot for England, despite being one of his country’s best players over the last couple of years.

When the Stockport-born attacker does start for his country in a major tournament, he is yet to be given the license to play in midfield.

Despite England often lacking creativity and a hint of magic in the middle of the park.

During Gareth Southgate’s reign, against the likes of Croatia, Italy and France at the 2018 World Cup, Euro 2021 and the Qatar World Cup respectively — a sparkle of magic in midfield could have helped them have an edge over such opponents in knockout games.

Instead, Phil Foden has never been handed the responsibility to run the show from an attacking midfield role — a positional shift that should be in place at the upcoming European Championship.
