Report: Liverpool have made their move to sign Euro 2024 attacker who Pep Guardiola thinks is 'incredible

Although the club season is over, Liverpool fans have plenty to look forward to across the summer.

For starters, a new era at Anfield is set to kick off. There’s excitement over seeing how Arne Slot settles into his new surroundings.

As well as seeing Slot and his new coaching team rock up at the AXA Training Centre, there’s of course the small matter of the transfer market to keep us occupied.

Liverpool are searching for a couple of new additions to flesh out their first-team squad. We expect movement sooner rather than later.

And, finally, Euro 2024 will get underway. With a dozen Liverpool players called up, there’s a lot to follow. And according to reports out of Spain, there’s one more star Reds supporters should be keeping an eye on.

Liverpool making move for Dani Olmo

It seems as though much of the early focus in the market for Liverpool will be on strengthening their defence.

However, the back line is not the only area Slot needs reinforcements in. The Reds attack is also set to see some surgery over the summer.

Quite what profile of player Liverpool are targeting remains to be seen. It will likely depend on any exits, with Luis Diaz and Mohamed Salah both linked with being sold. If Diaz is the man to go, then a move for RB Leipzig’s Dani Olmo could make a lot of sense.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Olmo has a £51m release clause which is active up until the 15th of July. That’s a relatively reasonable price for a player who Liverpool have reportedly scouted in the past.

And as per the Spanish outlet, the Reds are all over the 26-year-old. They claim that Liverpool have ‘started to move’ to sign Olmo amid competition from Bayern Munich, Man City, Man United and – most prevalently – Barcelona.

Barca are said to be very, very keen on bringing the Spain international back to the club. Olmo himself is also said to have not hidden his desire to re-join his boyhood club.

However, as ever with Barca, finances are a problem. This could leave the door open for Liverpool.

Pep Guardiola gives Dani Olmo approval

With 33 caps for Spain, Olmo is a well established member of Luis de la Fuente’s Euro 2024 squad.

The former Dinamo Zagreb man burst onto the scene having left Barcelona for Croatia as a teenager. And it was during his days with Dinamo that he caught the attention of a certain Pep Guardiola.

Playing against the Croats with Man City in the Champions League in 2019, Guardiola predicted big things for the then 21-year-old.

“The point is he is an incredible player and I am pretty sure he is able to play in the strong leagues in Europe,” the City boss said via Bleacher Report.

Since then, Olmo has spent four-and-a-half years with Leipzig, winning two German Cups. Now 26 and coming into his prime, he looks ready to make that next steps.

As we know, Liverpool like a release clause, so this might be one to watch.
