Report: Ange Postecoglou wants 'super-fast' player at Tottenham who scored 11 more goals than Heung-min Son

Tottenham Hotspur have added a prolific striker to their list of targets for the summer transfer window.

Spurs really struggled towards the end of the 2023/24 season. They won just two of their last seven games in the Premier League and that cost them a place in the top four.

Now, Ange Postecoglou wants to bolster his side to give them the best chance of success next season, and a new striker is said to be on the agenda.

Tottenham have been linked with plenty of forwards recently. Here’s the latest on one of them.

Lois Openda is higher on Tottenham’s list than £60m striker

Harry Kane left Tottenham Hotspur in the summer of 2023, and Postecoglou boldly decided against replacing him.

The North Londoners have done a decent job without an out-and-out number nine. Heung-min Son and Richarlison both fared well more often than not.

However, for Tottenham to go to the next level, they need a prolific striker who will guarantee over 20 goals a season.

Porto striker Evanilson has been linked with a move to Tottenham recently. The forward, who scored 25 goals in the 2023/24 campaign, is valued at £60 million.

Even though Tottenham are keeping an eye on Evanilson, GiveMeSport claim that he is actually much lower on the list than some of their other targets.

One player who is higher than him is RB Leipzig star Lois Openda.

The Belgium international, who only joined the German side in 2023 from Lens, has become a wanted man after a really impressive season in the Bundesliga.

The report claims that Postecoglou is ‘desperate to ensure he is not left short in the centre forward position’ in the 2024/25 season.

Openda’s stats put Tottenham players to shame

Despite the poor end to the season, Tottenham have a lot of positives to take.

Heung-min Son returned to good form after an underwhelming previous campaign. He ended the season with 17 goals and 10 assists in all competitions.

Richarlison chipped in with 12 goals too, which is a major improvement on the three he managed in his debut season at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Spurs target Openda, on the other hand, scored 28 goals for RB Leipzig in the 2023/24 season. That’s 11 more than what Tottenham’s top scorer Son managed in the same campaign.

The ‘super-fast‘ Openda would be a great option for Spurs, but whether Leipzig will let him go this summer remains to be seen.
