Beadle back & Haaland-like striker: Rohl's dream Sheffield Wednesday XI after summer transfers - opinion

Sheffield Wednesday have been linked with a number of players since they avoided relegation.

Sheffield Wednesday‘s season came to an end earlier this month, finishing three points above the bottom three.

The Owls’ survival will now determine the club’s transfer plans, with Dejphon Chansiri reportedly open to financing transfer fees in order to dramatically improve the squad.

With the likes of Tyreeq Bakinson and George Byers leaving the club, Rohl will be eager to bolster his midfield. Meanwhile, Wednesday have been left without a first-choice goalkeeper and proven goalscorer.

The transfer window isn’t set to open for another few weeks, butDanny Rohl’s side have already been linked with a number of stars who could make an impact next season.

We have looked at how Sheffield Wednesday’s XI could look if they sign the players they have been linked with so far.

Sheffield Wednesday’s dream XI so far

James Beadle

Sheffield Wednesday could well end up with Jack Hall as their most senior goalkeeper, with James Beadle returning to Brighton and Cameron Dawson yet to sign a new contract.

However, the Owls are reportedly eager to re-sign Beadle after he picked up eight clean sheets in 19 matches.

It is unclear whether Brighton will let the teenager leave on loan again though, with Jason Steele and Carl Rushworth’s futures on the south coast also in doubt.

Pol Valentin

Pol Valentin could remain first choice right-back after becoming a‘fan favourite‘ in the second half of the campaign.

With Liam Palmer often taking up more of a central role, Wednesday could still look to bolster the right side of the defence.

Valentin could really benefit from some competition though, having underperformed in the early months of his spell atHillsborough.

Di’Shon Bernard

It’s unclear whether Sheffield Wednesday will go with two or three central defenders next term, but Di’Shon Bernard will surely be one of the first names on the team-sheet either way.

The defender is yet to sign a new deal with the Owls, but could be persuaded by Rohl’s new contract.

Bernard has been an absolute ‘colossus’ for Wednesday and will hope to continue his form into next season if he stays.

Dominic Iorfa

Sheffield Wednesday’s other centre-back position could be up for grabs, with Iorfa, Palmer and Michael Ihiekwe all likely to be in contention.

The Owls’ defence really firmed up towards the end of the season, but we could still see the club bolster their backline in the coming months.

Marvin Johnson

Marvin Johnson has had his contract extended by the club and he will be eager to keep his place in the starting line-up now.

With Reece James and Kristian Pedersen leaving at the end of the season, Johnson is likely to stay at left-back.

However, fans can surely expect Wednesday to bring in more competition this summer.

Barry Bannan

While it hasn’t been confirmed yet, it is extremely likely that Bannan will put pen to paper on a new deal this summer.

The midfielder has been a regular for Wednesday for years now and will surely keep his place in the team no matter who is brought in.

Ovie Ejaria

Bannan could earn himself a new midfield partner next season, with Will Vaulks not really having much competition for his place.

With Tyreeq Bakinson, Momo Diaby, Jeff Hendrick and George Byers all leaving, Wednesday have now beenlinked with Ovie Ejaria.

The 26-year-old was released by Reading in December and has reportedly trained with the Owls in recent months, while he has also spent time with Plymouth Argyle.

Anthony Musaba

Anthony Musaba made a real positive impact towards the end of the season, ending it with eight goals and five assists in all competitions.

At only 23, the Dutchman will be expected to make a real impact after another pre-season in Yorkshire.

While Wednesday are likely to improve their attack, Musaba will surely be given another chance out wide.

Ian Poveda

Ian Poveda made a real difference following his loan switch from Leeds United, but his time at the club was cut short due to injury.

However, the Colombian will become a free agent this summer and it is thought that Wednesday areeager to bring him back.

Poveda is wanted across the Championship though and Wednesday will face stiff competition to sign him permanently.

Ike Ugbo

Ike Ugbo is another loanee that Sheffield Wednesday are desperate to re-sign.

The striker netted seven goals in the Championship last term, but has now returned to Troyes.

The Owls have reportedly already ‘initiated contact’ with the French club over a new deal for Ugbo, but they are one of a number of sides interested.

Mika Biereth

Sheffield Wednesday already tried to sign Arsenal striker Mika Biereth in January, but he went onto join Sturm Graz instead.

The 21-year-old could be made available again this summer though, and the Owls have reportedly ‘revisited their interest‘ in him.

Biereth claimed 15 goals and nine assists in all competitions this season and has been compared to Erling Haaland.
