The Russian forces have recently been attacking Odesa less often. The Ukrainian Armed Forces think there are two reasons for this, according to Dmytro Pletenchuk, spokesperson for the Southern Defense Forces.
He noted that Russian forces regularly strike whenever possible. Therefore, the recent calm in the southern region is explained by their inability to attack Odesa. There are two possible reasons for this.
"They have recently been using the other Kalibr missiles for strikes, not those that were shot down four out of four during the last attack; they use ballistic missiles. That is, they use the territory of the temporarily occupied Crimea for launches. These platforms are more mobile and easier to hide than a ship at sea. That's why they used them," Pletenchuk said.
He added that the Russian forces usually use all available weapons in the southern direction.
"So now, most likely, they either have no targets or no such capabilities. In all other cases, when they have such opportunities, they strike for sure," he emphasized.
At the same time, Pletenchuk added that the Russian army is afraid to deploy missile carriers in the waters. Therefore, they stay at the base point in Novorossiysk rather than at sea.
