Man charged after serious crash in Shottendane Road in Garlinge near Margate after police chase

A man has been charged after two women were seriously injured in a crash following a police chase.

Two air ambulances were called to the scene of the collision in Shottendane Road, Garlinge. near Margate, just after 9.30am on Friday, May 24.

Shortly before the crash, a black Vauxhall Astra had reportedly failed to stop when requested to do so by officers who were then authorised to pursue it.

The Astra was then involved in a crash with a Toyota Aygo.

Two women who were in the Toyota were taken to a London hospital where they remain in a serious but stable condition. A third woman, who was a passenger in the same car, was taken to a local hospital where she remains for treatment.

A 23-year-old man suspected to have been in the Astra was arrested at the scene and was also taken to a local hospital for medical attention.

Officers have now charged Joshua Clelford, of Argyle Avenue, Margate, with causing serious injury by dangerous driving, using a motor vehicle without insurance and driving while otherwise in accordance with a licence.

He appeared at Folkestone Magistrates’ Court on Monday where he was remanded to appear at Canterbury Crown Court on June 24.
