Port Vale prospect Baylee Dipepa was first linked to United in March, just weeks before being relegated from League One to League Two.
The 17-year-old striker hit three goals and two assists in 22 League One games and has shown the ability to become a real star.
Dipepa is also shining for England’s Under-17’s, recording four goals in his first six caps.
United were described as leading the race for Dipepa when the interest first emerged but there is now new competition.
The Daily Mail back up that United are ‘considered leaders’ for Dipepa’s signature but Premier League rivals West Ham United and Newcastle United have joined the race.
It’s stated that Aston Villa have also watched Dipepa ahead of a potential move whilst Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig are watching his situation.
It’s unclear just how much Dipepa would cost, but United may look to benefit from Port Vale’s drop into the fourth tier.
Ineos won’t want to lose Dipepa
There will be bigger names linked with United this summer but Dipepa represents an exciting talent.
The teenager is turning heads and this is the kind of signing United have been missing out on too many times in recent years.
United have seemingly pushed to the front of the queue for Dipepa and missing out on him now would feel like a disappointment.
The Ineos project is not just to bring better results right now but re-establish United as the place to be for all potential targets – no matter if they’re 17 or 27.
Dipepa could join the United development ranks or head straight out on loan to gain first-team experience having also played plenty of games for Port Vale.
Whatever the plan is, Ineos will be looking to get this deal wrapped up with more and more clubs seemingly joining the race for his signature after relegation.
