'Very excited': £60k-a-week Wolves star hints he'll be staying at Molineux beyond the summer window

Matheus Cunha has given a new interview – and many Wolves fans will appreciate some comments he has made ahead of the summer transfer window.

The Brazilian has just come to the end of his full season in English football, and the star certainly impressed at Molineux.

He finished the campaign with 14 goals and eight assists to his name, and was easily one of the most important players in the team under Gary O’Neil.

Cunha, 25, responded extremely well to the arrival of O’Neil, after initially getting worried when Julen Lopetegui left the club.

He was in terrific form throughout 2023/24, and fans are hoping that he will show a similar level next term and hopefully steer clear of injuries this time.

The summer transfer window is about to open and thankfully for Wolves fans, there actually hasn’t been too much talk about Cunha yet, despite his brilliant season. And supporters will really like some comments he’s made in a new interview with the E&S…

Cunha was a joy to watch at times in 2023/24.

The £60,000-a-week Brazilian was brilliant with his ball-carrying as he always has been. But under O’Neil showed more of a cutting edge in the final third. To get 22 goal involvements was very impressive going, and the objective next season will be to better that.

And it looks as though Cunha will be looking to do that in a Wolves shirt.

The player has been speaking about life at Wolves, and it is clear that he is very happy where he is right now.

He told the E&S: “I am very excited to be here, very excited for the future with Wolves. I am happy, that is the most important thing for me.

“I passed moments that I don’t want to pass again. Moments where I do not feel like I want to play football, where I feel very bad. Now I feel very happy and you want to do your best.

“I look forward with excitement at Wolves. Maybe we can show we are not a team to be relegated to the Championship. Maybe we can show we are a team that can go for Europe. I hope so. We never know the future but I hope so.

“We can show everyone the potential that we have.”

Very reassuring to hear

Wolves fans are likely going to lap up these comments from Cunha, who is clearly in a really good place at the moment.

The £44 million signing was a huge player for Wolves in 2023/24, and there is scope for him to get even better under O’Neil, whom he praised heavily in his interview.

There hasn’t been a great deal of speculation about Cunha so far, but it could yet come. It would be a surprise it if didn’t, because Cunha is a very talented and unique attacking player.

If other clubs do come calling, hopefully Cunha will not have his head turned. From what he has said here, it does sound like that is pretty unlikely to happen.

Clearly, he places a lot of emphasis on being happy and right now he feels that. He’s adored at Molineux and that means a great deal to him.
