Tampa PD Makes 40 DUI Arrests, Recovers 10 Firearms In Memorial Day Weekend Operation

TAMPA, Fla. \- The unofficial kick-off to summer started with a collaboration among law enforcement agencies throughout Hillsborough County to protect the community from impaired drivers.

The Tampa Police Department, Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office, and the Florida Highway Patrol are proud to announce the successful completion of the four-day operation, which was a joint-agency enforcement initiative aimed at cracking down on DUI (Driving Under the Influence) and BUI (Boating Under the Influence) offenses over the Memorial Day Weekend.

This annual operation, conducted from May 24 to May 27, focused on ensuring the safety of our community members during this traditionally busy holiday period.

The following are the totals for TPD's enforcement over the holiday weekend:

Traffic & DUI Enforcement-

  • DUI Arrests: 40
  • Traffic Citations: 595
  • Traffic Warnings: 1,129
  • Total Traffic Stops: 1,724

Marine Enforcement-

  • Vessel Stops: 57
  • Vessel Citations: 15
  • Vessel Warnings: 110

Other

  • Recovered Firearms: 10

One of the firearms recovered was a result of a traffic stop, where during the pat down, officers found a loaded firearm that was concealed in the waistband of 17-year-old Jamarl Pringle. Pringle was transported to the Juvenile Assessment Center (JAC) and charged with Minor in Possession of a Firearm.

"Through their proactive efforts, impaired drivers were removed from our streets and several individuals who weren't in lawful possession of firearms were apprehended before any of our community members were unnecessarily harmed," said Chief Lee Bercaw. "Our partnerships and collaborative approach over the long holiday weekend were critical in keeping our community safe."
