‘Let’s have it right’: Chris Sutton suggests Man Utd should hire ‘fantastic’ manager to replace Ten Hag now

Erik Ten Hag’s Manchester United future still isn’t secure.

The Dutchman may have just won the FA Cup, but the Red Devils finished eighth in the Premier League this season in what was a poor campaign all-round other than Saturday’s cup final.

Speaking on BBC 606, Chris Sutton was steadfast in his view that Ten Hag should go, claiming that Mauricio Pochettino would be a much better fit for Manchester United due to the fact his teams actually have an identity.

Chris Sutton backs Mauricio Pochettino for Manchester United

Sutton gave his verdict on the ‘fantastic’ manager and why he should get the United job.

“Why would you say that Poch should go in at Man United?” Sutton was asked.

“Because Pochettino has made progress at Chelsea. Talk about Manchester United and their brand of football, let’s have it right do you know what their identity is? At least at Chelsea under Pochettino you could see a progressive young team. United fans are entitled to their opinion, but it’s off one game, and you need to look beyond that,” Sutton said.

Ten Hag a better option than Pochettino

Say what you will about Erik Ten Hag and his style of play, if you’re wanting results, Mauricio Pochettino is not the man to go for.

Pochettino, as a manager, is the embodiment of style over substance. He’s managed seven seasons in English football now, and he doesn’t have a single trophy to his name.

Even at PSG, he struggled to win Ligue 1.

Meanwhile, for all of his faults, Ten Hag has won two trophies in two seasons, and that’s all that really matters.

There’s a strong argument to make that Ten Hag should go after an abysmal Premier League campaign, but, replacing him with someone like Pochettino would be a sideways step at best.
