'Has all the skills': Liverpool told they've got a player who's going to be one of the stars of Euro 2024

Liverpool are set to have a good few players starring at Euro 2024 this summer.

Over recent international tournaments, the Reds have often felt a little under-represented.

At the last European Championship, for example, only eight members of the Liverpool squad featured for their countries.

This time around, that number is set to be higher. Taking into account that some may still miss out, 12 of Arne Slot’s men have so far been named in their countries’ travelling parties.

Some of those will have genuine designs on bringing a winner’s medal back to the AXA Training Centre. And according to his national team manager, one player could be the star of the whole thing.

Marco Rossi makes Dominik Szoboszlai claim

Of the 12 Liverpool players so far heading to Germany, it’s likely that at least two of them will be cut before the tournament starts.

We’d expect that both Curtis Jones and Jarell Quansah will not make Gareth Southgate’s final selection for England.

One man who certainly will be on the plane though is Dominik Szoboszlai. The 23-year-old is Hungary’s captain and talisman having led them to a remarkable unbeaten run during qualification.

Having been drawn in a group with Switzerland, hosts Germany and Andy Robertson’s Scotland, Hungary will be quietly confident of passage through to the last-16.

And speaking in a press conference on Monday via Hungarian outlet Nemzeti Sport, manager Marco Rossi claimed that Szoboszlai has the skills to be a ‘leader’ in the tournament.

“He has all the skills to be a leader at the European Championships,” said Rossi of his captain. “On the pitch, he gets freedom, but that doesn’t mean he’s undisciplined. In fact, he is very responsible,” he adds.

“But we don’t have stars anyway, there’s no difference between footballers, everyone is equal. I trust my players, twenty-six of us will go to German.”

More needed from Szoboszlai at Liverpool

Szoboszlai might very well have all the skills to be a standout player at this summer’s Euros. But we need to see it more at Liverpool.

Having started the season so well, the former RB Leipzig man looked primed to take Anfield by storm.

However, the campaign really fizzled out for Szoboszlai and he ended it sitting on the bench for five of the final six games.

Although he has a big reputation in Hungary, that is not the form of a top, top player.

Szoboszlai is still young and can surely become a really big part of Liverpool under Slot. But Rossi has become prone to hyperbole when talking publicly about his captain.

It’s about time Dom got back to basics before shooting for the stars like this.
