Former Trump White House Communications Director Anthony Scaramucci on Tuesday said that his one-time boss did himself no favors when he went on an angry Truth Social spree over the weekend.

Appearing on CNN, Scarmucci said that former President Donald Trump may have made a fatal mistake when he decided to once again lob attacks at Judge Juan Merchan in a rage-filled rant that accused his opponents of being "human scum."

"The judge... has to be furious at the fact that he put a gag order on the president, that the president keeps breaching the gag order, and the night before the closing arguments, he puts another nail in the judge," he said. "So it will be very interesting to see how he tailors the instructions to the jury after listening to that nonsense, or reading it, last night."

Scarmucci also said that Trump's weekend rants show that he is "super nervous" about being convicted, and he added that Trump has good reason to worry.

"He knows the facts of the case," he said. "He knows what happened... I think [Trump attorney] Todd Blanche did a good job defending President Trump but it's just not enough. The evidence is overwhelming that the law was broken. So what's at issue here: Are there 12 jurors that believe that?"

Defense lawyers began making closing arguments in favor of Trump's acquittal on Tuesday by attacking the credibility of key witness Michael Cohen and by claiming that there was no willing falsification of business records related to Trump's efforts to cover up an affair with an adult film star in the closing weeks of the 2016 presidential election.

Prosecutors are expected to make their closing arguments shortly in favor of Trump's conviction.
