Robert Lewandowksi previous scoring record under Hansi Flick will excite Barcelona fans

Barcelona are ready to confirm the arrival of German Hansi Flick as the new manager for next season and beyond, after a chaotic few weeks.

Club legend Xavi had announced his desire to step down, before performing a u-turn, but the club sprung a surprise when they then chose to dismiss the former midfielder anyway.

Former Bayern Munich and Germany manager Hansi Flick agreed to replace him, and Barcelona may feel that they have made the right choice. Although the 59-year-old is not vastly experienced at the top level, he brings a wealth of pedigree when it comes to winning trophies.

Flick had an outstanding spell at Bayern Munich which saw him win two Bundesliga titles, the Champions League, the DFB Pokal, the Club World Cup and the UEFA Supercup within just two seasons.

Whilst there may be some questions over his tactical fit for the Barcelona squad, one player may be delighted to see him join, as striker Robert Lewandowski will be reunited with his former boss.

The 2019-20 season saw Flick win the treble with Bayern Munich, and it was arguably Lewandowski’s best season of his career.

The Poland star scored an astonishing 55 goals in 47 games across all competitions, and was the favourite for the Ballon d’Or before the award was postponed for the year.

Lewandowski has had a turbulent time at Barcelona since he arrived from Bayern. Although he scored 19 La Liga goals this season, he was far from his consistent best, and he even expressed his frustration about Xavi’s style of play.

He may now be happy to reunite with Flick to potentially reach his best form again.

Out of all the managers Lewandowski has ever played under, including Pep Guardiola, the striker has the best minutes-per-goal ratio under Flick.

In 71 matches under the German at Bayern, Lewandowski scored an astonishing 83 goals, and provided 22 assists, scoring at a rate of 75 minutes per goal.

By comparison, Lewandowski appeared under Xavi 95 times, scoring 59 and assisting 17, with a goal coming in every 132 minutes of action.

Although the 36-year-old is not quite at his prime anymore, he and Barcelona will hope that reuniting with Flick can help him find some of the form which made him one of the best strikers of his generation.
