The 2024 NCAA Baseball Tournament gets underway on Friday with regional action taking place. The Greenville Regional features No. 1 seed East Carolina, No. 2 Wake Forest, No. 3 Evansville and No. 4 VCU.

While ECU is the top seed in the regional and will be playing at home, it’s actually No. 2 seed Wake Forest that is favored to come out on top, according to DraftKings.

That’s not a huge surprise as the Demon Deacons are 38-20, have one of the nation’s top pitchers in Chase Burns and are coming off a College World Series appearance in 2023.

NCAA Baseball Tournament Greenville Regional Odds

Wake Forest -120
East Carolina +170
Evansville +850
VCU +1100

Even though Wake Forest is the favorite, don’t sleep on East Carolina. The Pirates are 43-15 (19-8) and already won a series this season over North Carolina. ECU has reached the super regionals in three of the past four years.

Wake Forest is without a doubt talented but has been inconsistent this season. The Demon Deacons dropped five ACC series, including getting swept by NC State, but they also swept Clemson and beat Florida State this season.

Evansville enters the NCAA Tournament with a 35-23 (17-10) record. The Purple Aces beat Indiana State in the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament Championship to clinch an NCAA Tournament bid.

VCU heads to the Greenville Regional with a 37-21 (15-8) record. The Rams swept their way through the Atlantic 10 Conference Tournament to earn an NCAA tourney bid, beating Richmond 16-1 in the championship game.

Action at the Greenville Regional gets underway on Friday with East Carolina hosting Evansville at 1 p.m. The late game will have No. 2 seed Wake Forest facing No. 3 seed VCU at 6 p.m. The two winners and two losers will then meet on Saturday.

On3’s Jonathan Wagner broke down each regional of the NCAA Tournament, including the Greenville Regional, sharing who he believes will win. Wagner has Wake Forest coming out on top in Greenville.

Here’s what he had to say about the teams:

“The potential of a Chase Burns vs. Tennessee rematch in super regionals is a top storyline in the postseason, but Chase Burns vs. Trey Yesavage on Saturday might be the most exciting part of regionals. ECU has concerns on the pitching front, though. Yesavage missed last week with a partially collapsed lung, but should return this weekend. Zach Root and Wyatt Lunsford-Shenkman also have missed significant time, but both should be available. Evansville is a sneaky four seed, too, as they are capable of pulling off an upset. Ultimately, we expect Wake Forest and ECU to meet in the regional final with the Demon Deacons squeaking it out in a tight one.”
