The Field of 64 has been revealed for the NCAA Baseball Tournament. With that, head coach Skip Johnson and the Oklahoma Sooners now know what’s ahead of them on the way to Omaha.

During the announcement of the field, Johnson could be seen shaking his head a few times, apparently in disagreement with how the Regions were set up or who made it into the NCAA Tournament. That was something that he was asked about following the announcement of the field.

“I don’t know if I’m surprised about it at all,” Skip Johnson said. “I mean, I’m never surprised by what happens with the NCAA or what happens with baseball. Was I shaking it ‘yes’ or was I shaking it ‘no?'”

At that point, the reporter who asked about the NCAA Tournament replied that Skip Johnson was shaking his head ‘no.’

“I was shaking ‘no.’ Maybe I couldn’t believe where they’re matched up from region to region but that’s not in my control,” Johnson said. “My control is to get these guys prepared to play and hopefully they take it one pitch at a time.”

Oklahoma will be the ninth overall seed in the NCAA Tournament. With that, the Sooners are getting ready to host their own Regional in Norman, with Duke, UConn, and Oral Roberts all joining them in that Regional to start things off in the NCAA Tournament.

There were plenty of things worth debating in the Field of 64, like the bubble. As is always the case, there were plenty of bubble teams that felt like they should have been in and others who there is debate about whether or not they truly belonged.

NCAA Baseball Chairman addresses controversial placement of teams with selection committee representation

The NCAA Baseball Chairman Matt Hogue addressed the controversial placement of several teams, like Coastal Carolina and ECU who made the tournament while having representation on the selection committee.

“I think that’s a fair question. We have a very strict safety net procedure within the NCAA’s protocols and rules. If any schools are discussed that have committee members representing them, they have to leave the room. They can’t be a part of the discussion,” Hogue said.

“They also cannot be a part of the voting procedure. So there are recusal protocols in place and other protocols to keep that fair and balanced.”
