In Mariupol, temporarily occupied by Russian forces, the Sea of Azov has receded from the shore by hundreds of meters. Interestingly, the coastline has expanded.
This phenomenon was reported by the advisor to the mayor of Mariupol, Petro Andriushchenko.
Reasons for the anomaly
According to Andryushenko, a similar situation is observed in the Russian city of Taganrog. The reasons are currently unknown.
"A strange phenomenon in the Sea of Azov. The sea has receded from the shore to a record distance. Hundreds of meters. In Mariupol on the Left Bank. Further in Taganrog. The reasons are still unclear, but definitely anomalous," he reported.

After three months of fighting in May 2022, Russian forces occupied Mariupol. This is the second occupation the city has endured in the last 10 years. Russian hybrid forces first seized Mariupol in the spring of 2014.
According to various reports, thousands of civilians have perished in the city. Ukrainian authorities cite over 20,000 deaths. However, the actual death toll may be much higher.
