Zelenskyy convinced Ukraine’s bilateral security deals will prove effective

Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Portuguese PM Luís Montenegro

He made this statement during his visit to Lisbon, where Ukraine and Portugal signed such an agreement.

Zelenskyy noted that these documents are signed at the highest government level, reinforcing their validity.

“This is a bilateral treaty; all countries signing these bilateral treaties have joined the [2023] G7+ [NATO] Vilnius Summit declaration,” the Ukrainian president said.

“I have no doubt about our partners. Some of these agreements, like those we signed with the UK and France, are already operational. For instance, we have secured long-range capabilities for Ukraine. The first batch [of weapons] from our agreements is already in Ukraine, and we are using them.”

Additionally, Zelenskyy suggested that by honoring the deals with Ukraine, Kyiv’s Western partners will be able to preserve their international standing.

"This is an opportunity for the international community to demonstrate their solidarity through action, not just rhetoric,” he added.
