The Arkansas Razorbacks are a host team for the regional round in 2024, which is becoming a norm under head coach Dave Van Horn. The Razorbacks will be hosting Kansas State, Louisiana Tech, and Southeast Missouri State in the Fayetteville Regional of this year’s college baseball championship tournament.

Heading into the opening round of the tournament, Van Horn shared his thoughts on Arkansas being the No. 5 overall seed, along with how he views this year’s regional in terms of proximity.

“You know, as far as what the websites say and all that on seeds, it doesn’t matter to me,” Van Horn said. “It’s great being a top-eight; it doesn’t matter one or eight to me— anywhere in between. So, [I’m] excited about that.”

“Our regional is a true regional. Louisiana Tech is about four or five hours away, SEMO (Southeast Missouri State) 5 hours away or something like that, and K State is 5 and a half (hours) away. It should be really good crowds. I would think the other teams would be able to bring a lot of fans. But I don’t know. You never know what’s going to happen this time of year, who’s hot, who’s not, who’s hurt, who’s not, who’s sick, who’s not— we’ve been on both sides of it. So [I’m] just started to be back playing here.”

With each of the teams heading to Arkansas over the weekend hailing from neighboring states, it is very much an ideal regional. This is unlike in some other situations, such as the Corvallis Regional, where Oregon State will host Tulane, whose home is in New Orleans, LA.

Still, regardless of how near or far the opponents are about to travel, beating Van Horn and the Razorbacks and their home combines will be no walk in the park. Whether their fans are in attendance or not, the other programs should expect to get the very best out of Arkansas as they attempt to capture their first national championship in program history.

Van Horn on NCAA Tournament

Now, with the NCAA Tournament ready to get started, Van Horn knows it’s time for his team to take a step forward.

This comes after Arkansas fell short in the SEC Tournament, losing to South Carolina and Kentucky in the process. It was following the final loss to the Wildcats that Van Horn explained how the team is going to take a step forward during the NCAA Tournament.

“We’ll get back and rest up just a little bit,” Dave Van Horn said. “The message out there was this is where we wanted to be as far as we know we’re going to be in a regional, a really good opportunity to host. It’s time to take a step forward.”
