Norfolk Photography Walks celebrates it’s fifth anniversary

The 'Norfolk Photography Walks' venture will be celebrating its fifth anniversary in June.

Snettisham-based photographer Jon Clifton started group tuition walks in 2019 after realising the benefits that photography, walking, and being with like-minded people had for well-being.

Following the first ever group walk in Thornham on June 16, 2019, events have been held in multiple locations and at various tourist attractions around the county.

From beautiful coastal areas to wildlife reserves, Christmas lights, steam train rides, tulip fields, boat trips, and historic towns, there is something for anyone who likes to pick up a camera or those looking to take up a new hobby.

When asked to choose a favourite event from over the past few years, Mr Clifton said: “Highlights for me include the Snettisham wader spectacular at sunset, stepping onto the plate of a steam train on the North Norfolk Railway and more recently looking for beach treasures on idyllic Scolt Head Island.

“The main highlight however has been meeting the many wonderful people who've come along, some from as far away as Nottingham. Regular attendees have become the photo walks family.”

Laura Baxter joined her first group walk in 2022. She said: “It’s been a year since I joined my first photo walk and what a year it's been, some great locations, tuition and encouragement as well as meeting an amazing photography family.”

Mr Clifton added: “It's incredibly rewarding to plan the walks and see people's reactions when they visit a new location for the first time.

“I feel incredibly lucky to share these beautiful places, to teach something I'm passionate about and to have got to know people through a shared love of photography. Here's to the next five years.”

More recently, the groups have teamed up with Deepdale Backpackers and Camping to hold photography walks as part of the annual Hygge weekend.

Mr Clifton has also started one-to-one 'introduction to photography' walks for beginners.

Along with celebrating their fifth anniversary with a visit to Wells, Norfolk Photography Walks’ fifth season continues with events planned for Houghton Hall, RSPB Snettisham and Norwich.
