Arsenal now join Bayern Munich in race for 'phenomenal' wonderkid who won award this year

Arsenal are set to be active in the upcoming transfer window, and are actively scouting a lot of players in a number of positions.

Mikel Arteta is keen to add youthful quality in several positions, but if a market opportunity opens up, Arsenal may be open to a deal for a surprise signing.

This could come in the form of a Championship star in Leeds United gem Archie Gray. Leeds failed at the last hurdle as they lost the Championship playoff final to Southampton, and this means that they could lose a few key players in the transfer window.

Gray has been one of the best young talents to come out of Elland Road in years, and a move this summer cannot yet be ruled out.

Despite being just 18, Gray has already made over 50s senior appearances for Leeds. Although predominantly a midfielder, he has also filled in at right-back.

A report from HITC has now revealed that whilst Bayern Munich, Liverpool, Manchester City and Man United are interested in Gray, Arsenal have scouted him extensively, and that he could be of interest to Mikel Arteta.

Arsenal are in the market for a new midfielder, with Thomas Partey linked with an exit, but it is unclear whether Gray is seen as this solution.

Gray’s ability to play both at right-back as well as in central midfield, makes him an attractive prospect for any club aware of his talents.

Given that he is in high demand, he could be out of Arsenal’s reach, but a move cannot be ruled out just yet.

The teenager has been excellent since he broke into the team, and the fact he has made over 50 appearances for Leeds already is a welcome surprise.

If Gray does join, he could slot straight into a deep midfield role alongside Declan Rice and Martin Odegaard, and he has been praised by the away around him.

Former Leeds star Jermaine Beckford praised Gray after he looked comfortable in his full debut, and painted Smith Rowe’s energy throughout.

“He’s in the right place to learn, he’s got a little bit of everything in him. Phenomenal player, he did really well today,” Beckford stated in August 2023.

Gray appears to be a highly talented, young and versatile player, with the potential to improve and a signing like his could be welcomed this summer.

The teenager also won the Championship Young Player of the Year award, and this has put clubs on high alert as they aim to secure a deal for Gray.
