Wayne Rooney names one major ‘dislike’ that Man Utd fans will love hearing, even Gary Neville couldn’t hide his reaction

Plymouth Argyle boss Wayne Rooney drew a reaction from former England and Manchester United teammate Gary Neville after he admitted one of his biggest dislikes.

The 38-year-old Manchester United legend made his return to management after he was recently appointed the Plymouth Argyle manager.

Wayne Rooney had been out of the dugout since January after his ill-fated spell with Birmingham City came to an end.

The former United and England striker suffered nine defeats in his 15-match run at Birmingham City and was dismissed after 83 days in charge of the club.

Rooney has been taking part in punditry in recent months and was part of BBC’s coverage for the FA Cup in the 2023-24 season.

The ex-Birmingham City boss was also reunited with United legends Gary Neville and Roy Keane after he took up a role on The Overlap’s Stick to Football show.

Rooney, who took up punditry for Sky Sports and TNT Sports, was later named as part of BBC’s line-up for the Euro 2024 coverage before his return to management.

Rooney reveals his biggest dislike

Wayne Rooney took part in a quick-fire Q&A on The Overlap alongside Gary Neville, who asked him what he liked and disliked about Liverpool.

The Manchester United and England legend was born in Liverpool and started his career with boyhood club Everton before he arrived at Old Trafford in 2004.

Sir Alex Ferguson snapped up Rooney from the Toffees and the former United striker had an incredible spell during his time with the Red Devils.

Rooney returned to Everton for a second spell after his exit from United, with the Plymouth boss seeing out the rest of his career with DC United and Derby County.

The former DC United and Derby County manager told Neville he admired the “honesty” about people from Liverpool and how they were straight to the point.

However, Rooney admitted that his biggest dislike about Liverpool was Everton’s fierce rivals, with Neville laughing at his former teammate’s admission.

“There’s the thing I like the most about Liverpool is the honesty,” he said.

“And you might laugh at that but I always think people from Liverpool are very honest and straight, so they’ll tell you what they think and there’s no messing around, no beating around the bush and I think that’s a great quality to have.

“And what I dislike? Liverpool Football Club. There’s not much anything else really.”

Neville on Ferguson’s admission about Rooney

Neville recalled that iconic former United manager Sir Alex Ferguson felt that Rooney didn’t play well against Liverpool in his career.

According to the Sky Sports pundit, Ferguson believed that Rooney would become emotional playing in Liverpool and he wouldn’t pick him for the match.

Rooney admitted that his performances would dip against Liverpool and Everton and the former United star felt he was affected by how much he wanted to win.

“Liverpool and Everton. You wanna win so much your game goes a little bit, so I never really played that well many times against Liverpool or Everton,” he said.
