Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskнy will embark on a working visit to France on Thursday, June 6, according to French President Emmanuel Macron.
Zelenskyy will participate in the commemorative events marking the 80th anniversary of the Allied landings in Normandy. The international ceremony will take place in Saint-Laurent-sur-Mer, on Omaha Beach.
"I will have the opportunity, when President Zelenskyy arrives in France for D-Day next week, to host him and have very concrete discussions about what more we can do to support Ukraine," Macron said.
It is expected that many heads of state will be present at the international ceremony in Normandy on June 6.
Russia received an invitation to participate in the commemorative events to honor the importance of the self-sacrifice and sacrifices of the Soviet peoples during World War II. However, Russian dictator Vladimir Putin was not invited to the event due to the ongoing Russian military offensive in Ukraine.
French military assistance
France has become one of seven NATO countries to join the German initiative to supply Ukraine with equipment and missiles for air defense systems.
This is a significant step that demonstrates the growing determination of the West to help Ukraine defend itself against Russian aggression.
In addition to air defense supplies, there are calls in the French parliament to lift the ban on the use of French-made weapons by Ukrainian forces for strikes on Russian territory.
By the way, France has already become one of the largest suppliers of military aid to Ukraine.
