What Jurgen Klopp told Caoimhin Kelleher before leaving Liverpool

Caoimhin Kelleher has been at Liverpool since joining them from Ringmahon in 2015.

The Ireland international has developed incredibly well over the years. He has been Alisson’s number two for quite some time now, but he showed in the 2023/24 season that he has come a long way.

Kelleher stepped in during Alisson’s absence due to injuries. He played 26 times in all competitions for the Reds and fared really well.

He even played a massive part in Liverpool’s Carabao Cup triumph, keeping a clean sheet in the final against Chelsea at Wembley.

That proved to be Jurgen Klopp‘s final trophy as Liverpool’s manager and it’ll be one that he will surely remember for a long, long time.

After bidding farewell to everyone at Anfield on the final day of the season, Klopp had a private conversation with Kelleher before saying goodbye to him as well.

The Liverpool goalkeeper has now revealed what his boss told him.

“He’s been the only manager I’ve ever had at Liverpool. He gave me my debut and so many opportunities so I wanted to say thank you to him for everything he’s done for me, Keller told The Athletic.

“He said I’d developed into a really good goalkeeper and that he would follow my career wherever I go. They were nice words to hear.

“He got a great send-off and it was a fitting tribute to him.”
