Mikel Arteta reveals ‘what we want’ at Arsenal in clear five-word declaration

Mikel Arteta has left zero room for doubt after revealing ‘what we want’ at Arsenal in a firm declaration of intent after winning a 2023/24 Best Premier League Coach award.

The Globe Soccer Awards have sought to recognise what Arteta achieved at Arsenal through 2023/24 in a record-breaking season. While the Spaniard did not deliver the Premier League title in north London, his Gunners side set new club triumphs as they fought to the final day.

Manchester City, ultimately, beat Arsenal to the crown by only two points thanks to drawing two more games than the Emirates Stadium outfit. Both sides won a division-high 28 games this season and both also ended the campaign with the joint-best goal difference at plus-62.

Arsenal even achieved the best defensive record during the 2023/24 Premier League season after conceding 29 goals in 38 games. Just Manchester City also outscored Arteta’s XI with the Citizens netting 96 to the Gunners’ 91. But Arteta wants a lot more at Arsenal next term.

Arteta has still only added one title to Arsenal’s trophy cabinet since replacing Unai Emery in December 2019. He led the Gunners to lift the FA Cup in his debut campaign in 2019/20. But the closest Arsenal have gone to a title since is back-to-back runners-up top-flight finishes.

Now, Arteta has issued a clear five-word statement of intent about what Arsenal want to do next season. He is adamant that the goal is to ‘win’ another major trophy after the Gunners even crashed out of the FA Cup in the third or fourth round in each of the past four seasons.

“Win, win, win and win – that’s what we want,” Arteta said, via quotes by talkSPORT. “We’ve been through a few [barren] years right now.

“We have a team that is full of enthusiasm and [is] so hungry to win trophies. We know the competition but we believe we can do it. So, we are going to give it a real go.”

Arteta made his declaration of intent after the Globe Soccer Awards named the Arsenal boss as the Best Premier League Coach for the 2023/24 term. He led the Gunners’ second-best campaign in Premier League history with 89 points, trailing only the 2003/04 Invincibles’ 90.

Arsenal further won a club record 28 games during their Premier League season, which even only trails the 29 wins the Gunners achieved during their 1970/71 title-winning First Division campaign. Arteta also oversaw Arsenal’s best-ever start to any calendar year with eight wins.

For the first time in Arsenal’s history as a club, they even won their first three away games in any top-flight campaign without conceding a goal. The Gunners also became the first club to win three straight away games by five or more goals through English league football history.

So, while Arsenal finished the season two points shy of the title with a tally that would have won it in 20 of the previous 31 Premier League seasons, Arteta oversaw lots of successes for the Spaniard to merit winning the Globe Soccer Awards’ Best Premier League Coach award.
