It is clear which Leeds United player Liverpool should sign after Championship play-off failure - opinion

Liverpool have a lot of big decisions to make in the summer transfer window, with Arne Slot needing to build an exciting squad as soon as possible.

Fortunately, the incoming manager already has the basis of a top side, one that finished third in the Premier League last season.

That finish has secured Champions League football for the upcoming campaign, which in turn means Slot will need to add one or two new faces in order to successfully compete in all competitions.

As is often the case with new managers, the Dutchman could turn to his former club Feyenoord for star players.

He could also look within the Eredivisie, a competition which boasts a long list of talented players, with current aces Virgil van Dijk and Cody Gakpo having played in the Dutch top flight once upon a time.

Liverpool want to sign Archie Gray and Crysencio Summerville

But Slot could look much closer to Anfield for new players, and intriguingly not in the Premier League but in the Championship.

According to FootballTransfers, the Reds are keen on a move for Leeds United youngster Archie Gray, with TEAMtalk reporting that they are also interested in a deal for his teammate Crysencio Summerville.

Both played key roles under Daniel Farke this season, but have ultimately been left heartbroken after Leeds lost 1-0 to Southampton in the Championship play-off final.

While the narrow defeat at Wembley is devastating for the Whites, it could be very positive news for Liverpool, with many Elland Road players potentially moving on for bigger and better things.

While many Reds fans would warmly welcome the signatures both Gray and Summerville in the transfer window, that is perhaps unrealistic.

Liverpool should prioritise Archie Gray over Crysencio Summerville

The Merseyside outfit are much better focusing on one of the Elland Road stars, with 18-year-old Gray surely top of the list.

Summerville has enjoyed a hugely impressive campaign, with the 22-year-old winger posting tallies of 21 goals and 10 assists.

But the Reds already have a long list of talented attacking options, with their defence in more desperate need of improvement after a poor campaign at the back.

Having played the majority of the season at right-back, teenage star Gray can help solve that issue, but the England Under-21 international is also able to operate in defensive midfield.

While Farke preferred Gray at right-back, Slot could go down the midfield route at Anfield, with Liverpool already assured in the former area thanks to the presence of Trent Alexander-Arnold and Conor Bradley.

Moreover, the Reds are lacking options in defensive midfield after Thiago departed the club, with Wataru Endo potentially leaving after just one season.
