Leandro Trossard opens up about his relationship with Arteta after reported Arsenal rift

Arsenal attacker Leandro Trossard has now opened up about his relationship with Mikel Arteta after he was said to have had a difference of opinion with the manager.

Leandro Trossard became an increasingly important figure in the Arsenal squad as the season wore on.

At the start of the campaign, the Belgian forward was behind Gabriel Martinelli in the pecking order at the Emirates Stadium.

However, in the second half of the season, the 29-year-old became more prominent and made himself a regular starter with his impressive performances on the left-flank. Trossard earned comparisons with Arsenal icon Freddie Ljungberg with his prolific streak of form over the course of the run-in.

Trossard ended the season with 17 goals to his name, 5 of which came in the last 8 games of the Premier League campaign. Only Bukayo Saka was a more potent force in front of goal for Mikel Arteta’s side this season.

However, there were fractious moments in the season for the former Brighton and Hove Albion man. It was recently revealed that Trossard and Arteta were not always on the same page, as the forward can be somewhat stubborn.

It has also previously been said that Trossard is unhappy with a back-up role in the Arsenal squad.

However, any rift between the player and the manager has now been healed. Trossard has now shared his feelings about the boss in an interview with former Arsenal winger Theo Walcott.

Speaking on a video posted on the club’s official website, Walcott asked Trossard: “Your relationship with Mikel, how is your relationship and how has he made you settle in?”

The 32-cap Belgium international replied: “He sees every small detail, he wants to improve, he’s so focused and I think it helps the whole squad to be on it every day. Even in training you’re not allowed to switch off. He wants you to be on it. It’s such a great club and like I said, I’m enjoying my life here so I’ll just take the moment as it is and go on from there.”

What will Leandro Trossard’s role at Arsenal be next season?

Arsenal fans will be delighted to hear that Trossard is happy and settled at the club. He is set to be an important player for the Gunners next season, and may also be looked to to step up as something of a leader in the dressing room. Arsenal may well have a dearth of experience in their ranks next season, when Trossard will be one of the senior figures in the first team group.

However, if Martinelli can rediscover his best form, then Trossard will face a fierce fight to retain his regular starting berth. Equally, if the Gunners invest in a wide attacker in the upcoming summer transfer window, then that may also cause him to slide back down the pecking order.
