‘Nice words to hear’: Caoimhin Kelleher shares what Jurgen Klopp told him before leaving Liverpool

Liverpool are set for a major shakeup this summer, with their new era set to be led by incoming manager Arne Slot.

The new boss has a long to-do list at Anfield, one of which will be trying to keep some exit-linked stars at the club.

Winger Mohamed Salah is one such player linked with a move away, with the Reds set to demand more than £100million from Saudi Pro League clubs for his services.

But another man who could leave in the transfer window is Caoimhin Kelleher, who has suggested that his time at Anfield may now be coming to an end.

The goalkeeper boasts 47 appearances for the Merseyside club, having played a large chunk of the most recent season due to an injury to Alisson.

Caoimhin Kelleher shares Jurgen Klopp parting message

The Republic of Ireland international, who has 12 caps to his name, certainly stepped up when Jurgen Klopp needed him the most.

And Kelleher has now shared what the German told him upon his Anfield farewell at the end of the season.

“He’s been the only manager I’ve ever had at Liverpool,” Kelleher told The Athletic. “He gave me my debut and so many opportunities so I wanted to say thank you to him for everything he’s done for me.

“He said I’d developed into a really good goalkeeper and that he would follow my career wherever I go. They were nice words to hear. He got a great send-off and it was a fitting tribute to him.”

Will Caoimhin Kelleher leave Liverpool?

Liverpool supporters will be devastated should Salah depart this summer, but the same can be said of Kelleher.

While he hasn’t quite had the same impact at Anfield as his teammate, the goalkeeper has been a very popular figure at the club.

His various penalty shootout heroics will live long in the memory, while his displays this season alone helped secure many points for the Reds.

But an exit does seem likely, with Kelleher undoubtedly deserving of regular first team football, which will not arrive at Anfield anytime soon given the presence of Alisson.

His international future is also at stake, with the Irish shot-stopper currently playing second fiddle to Gavin Bazunu, likely due to a lack of minutes at club level.
