Histon (120-2) remain second in the Onyx League Division One table following last weekend’s eight-wicket win on the road at Southill Park (116).
Much of the visitors’ success came courtesy of Henry Wilson, who starred with both bat and ball to steer Histon towards their fifth league win of the season.
Bowling first, Wilson recorded figures of 5-17 alongside John Turner’s 3-23 as hosting Southill Park were bowled out in 52 overs.
And Wilson followed that up during the run chase with a knock of 79 runs from 54 deliveries.
Dan Cummins, who took one wicket with the ball, also contributed an unbeaten 18 runs to help seal the win in 22.5 overs.
Histon, who are 12 points adrift of league-leading Ramsey with six match weekends played, will aim to continue their positive start to the 2024 campaign on Saturday (1 June) when they play host to Saffron Walden II. The visitors will make the trip from Essex sitting third from bottom having won one of their six matches this term.
Meanwhile, Foxton Granta (149-3) have remained unbeaten in this season’s Onyx League Division One following Saturday’s seven-wicket triumph at Saffron Walden II (148).
After winning the toss, visiting captain Lewys Hill opted to field first – a decision that was soon vindicated as wickets fell at regular intervals.
Hill did his bit for the team with figures of 2-33, while Fergus Ferguson (2-35), Sam Beer (2-19) and Chris Pepper (2-13) also snared two wickets apiece as the home side were bowled out in 52.1 overs.
Skipper Mihir Chandraker and Jed Bailey in the lower order jointly top scored for Walden’s second string with 28 runs each.
In reply, Foxton Granta lost Douglas Rice (1) and Alex Hooley (19) early on, but an unbeaten half century from William Brown (57 not out) guided the away team to victory.
Third-placed Foxton Granta will have home advantage on Saturday (1 June) when they play host to Burwell & Exning.
Burwell & Exning (147) go into that contest having slipped to a third straight Onyx League Division One defeat as they went down to an eight-wicket home loss at the hands of Cambridge St Giles (153-2) on Saturday.
Batting first, hosting Burwell & Exning got their innings off to a solid start courtesy of an opening-wicket partnership of 41 runs between Simon Donald (30) and Chris Summerskill (13).
The combination of Nic Huckle (18) and skipper Paul Summerskill (12) also provided a useful partnership of 31 for the third wicket, but further significant scores were in short supply.
Chasing less than 150 runs for victory, fourth-placed St Giles made light work of their target.
Reuben Thain (63) and Kunal Dabas (78 not out) did much of the work with a partnership of 120 runs as the visitors completed the job in two balls shy of 25 overs.
Burwell & Exning, who have slipped down to seventh in the standings, will go in search of their first victory since early May when the travel to face Foxton Granta on Saturday (1 June).
On the same day, St Giles will play host to the side directly below them in the table – fifth-placed Wisbech Town.
