Lithuania has decided to join the air defense coalition established by Germany. The country will purchase radars for Ukraine, citing Lithuania's Defense Minister Laurynas Kasčiūnas.
He said that the Lithuanian government is allocating 13.5 million euros for the purchase of radars to strengthen Ukraine's warning systems.
"And thus we are joining the air defense coalition initiated by Germany," he added.
According to Kasčiūnas, Lithuania will purchase four radars for Ukraine by the end of this year and will continue the procurement.
"The goal for this year is four. They will enhance alertness, visual warning, and then the capability to destroy all aerial objects," said the defense minister.
Lithuania's support for Ukraine
Lithuania, along with Latvia and Estonia, has supported Ukraine since the first days of Russia's full-scale invasion. The Baltic countries have provided financial, humanitarian, and military assistance, and have sheltered thousands of refugees. Additionally, they support sanctions against Russia and Ukraine's path to the EU and NATO.
Specifically, Lithuania has supplied Ukraine with M577 armored personnel carriers, air defense systems, ammunition, and other military equipment and gear.
Furthermore, Lithuania is assisting Ukraine with reconstruction and the elimination of the consequences of the aggressive war.
