Man City showing 'the most interest' in £100m Rodri partner who Arsenal also really want

Manchester City are reportedly leading the race to sign a £100m-rated midfielder also rumoured to be wanted by Arsenal.

Pep Guardiola’s side once again ended up on top of the Premier League standings this season with the Manchester giants beating Arsenal to the title on the final day of the campaign by just two points.

Creating history by becoming the first English side ever to win four titles in a row, Arsenal were simply unable to keep up with City as the Etihad Stadium side enjoyed their longest unbeaten run ever to pip the Gunners to the championship.

And City are now in pole position to land a player wanted by Arsenal this summer.

Manchester City ahead of Arsenal in race to sign Bruno Guimaraes

According to AS, City are now showing ‘the most interest’ in signing Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes as a partner for Rodri, with Arsenal also in the race for the Brazilian international.

As per the report, the Manchester giants tried to sign the Premier League star in the January transfer window, and there is an expectation that City will be back in for Guimaraes this summer before the midfielder’s £100m release clause expires.

City will face competition from the likes of Arsenal, though, who have been linked with a move for Guimaraes for what feels like forever with Mikel Arteta believed to be a big fan of the midfielder.

However, with City leading the charge for Guimaraes, it could be hard for Arsenal to beat their Premier League rivals to the midfielder’s signature, who could be tempted by the prospect of playing alongside Rodri.

Arsenal could regret not stepping up interest to sign Guimaraes

The current state of play strongly suggests that City are the favourites to sign Guimaraes, with the Newcastle midfielder a player who could thrive under Guardiola if the £100m release clause was triggered.

Yet for Arsenal, there could be a regret if the Gunners don’t step up their interest now to sign Guimaraes, who Arteta has been chasing for some time with the north London side keen on signing a midfielder as well.

Whilst City could end up winning this race, there will be a twinge of regret from Arsenal if they did not at least try to sign Guimaraes, who could be a fantastic addition in the midfield for the Gunners.
