Georgia Amoore looking to be “biggest sis” to Clara Strack as she develops

At Virginia Tech, Georgia Amoore became one of the best guards in college basketball in part because of Elizabeth Kitley, who opened things up for Amoore, allowing her to flourish. Kitley will go down as the greatest to ever do it in Blacksburg. The list of accolades is practically endless, and soon enough, her jersey will be in the rafters.

On Nothing But Net with ESPN analyst Debbie Antonelli, Amoore said that it wasn’t necessarily skills that made their chemistry work so well, but their relationship.

She is now looking forward to recreating that same bond with sophomore center Clara Strack.

Can I be like the ‘biggest sis’ and develop her?” Amoore told Antonelli. “Yeah, I can. I think our relationship is growing. I wouldn’t say it’s fulfilled into what it’s going to be by halfway next season, obviously. We have a long way to go, but she listens to me. I respect her, and I hope she knows that.”

Amoore would then make the connection back to Kitley, talking about how she hopes to have the same type of togetherness that she and Kitley had.

I think the biggest part that made Liz and I so good is our relationship,” Amoore added. “It had nothing to do with the skill. I read her, she read me. It was a mutual relationship. We knew for the sake of the team we had to get along. We had to know each other like the back of each other’s hands.”

She continued, “That’s something Clara’s gonna have to learn going into next year. Our relationship is gonna have to be solid. It’s going to have to be strong. I’m gonna have to know what she likes, and she’s gonna have to know what I like. So, it’s obviously going to take some time, and the only thing we can do is work out together — those extra reps.”

Strack had a strong showing in the NCAA Tournament last season in Kitley’s absence, averaging 17.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 3.0 blocks in two games. It’s certainly too early to say that Strack will be the next Liz Kitley, but having Georgia Amoore along her side for a year will certainly help in that progression.
