Peckover House & Garden host Big Help Out Event in Wisbech on June 6

Peckover House and Garden in Wisbech will be taking part in this year’s Big Help Out – the UK’s biggest-ever mass volunteering event.

The event offers the people of Wisbech and the surrounding areas an opportunity to try out volunteering in the beautiful green space along Octavia Walk and on Harecroft Road playing fields.

Amongst the activities organised for the day, Wisbech Street Pride will be supplying the equipment and leading a litter pick to support nature and keep the green space clean and safe to use.

Peckover House & Garden is to host Big Help Out Event in Wisbech.

National Trust Ranger, Tom Day will also be there, leading a group to find and identify as many species of plants, animals, fungi, and other organisms as possible in the very first Harecroft bioblitz. Everything found will be documented and passed on to the local and national databases that monitor wildlife.

Whether volunteering is brand new to you, or you’re a seasoned expert in local volunteering, everyone is welcome to come along and join in. Representatives from organisations such as Wisbech in Bloom, Octavia Hill Birthplace Museum, the National Trust, and Volunteer Cambridge will all be on hand to chat to you about ongoing local opportunities for volunteering too.

Donna Baldwin, general manager at Peckover House & Gardens, said: “Over the last 12 months, we’ve been working within the Wisbech community to better understand the needs of our local visitors.

“The project has helped us to build some great relationships with other local charities and community groups and work with them in a collaborative way. The Big Help Out really underlines that work and we are very excited to be taking part.

“In 2023, 7.2 million people took part in the Big Help Out, lending a hand and making a difference in their local communities and this year we hope to encourage even more people to get involved.”

The Big Help Out 2024 is a national campaign that encourages people to volunteer for three days, from 7 to 9 June 2024. It’s part of Volunteers’ Week, and provides an opportunity for individuals, schools, and workplaces to lend a hand and make a positive impact in their local communities.

On Friday 7 June the National Trust’s Peckover House and Garden will be taking part in this year’s Big Help Out – the UK’s biggest ever mass volunteering event.
