Report: Club are still unable to meet Leeds United's asking price to sign player despite play-off final defeat

Leeds United have plenty of work to do on the futures of the returning loan players this summer.

Following relegation from the Premier League 12 months ago, eight members of the first team sealed temporary exits from Elland Road, of which only Luis Sinisterra and Robin Koch have since made permanent.

Chairman Paraag Marathe has insisted Leeds are not in the same situation as last summer when it comes to the majority of these players.

It is thought only Jack Harrison and Marc Roca have the option to leave on loan again, with the former potentially set for a return to Everton, and the latter to Real Betis.

That leaves Max Wober, Brenden Aaronson, Diego Llorente and Rasmus Kristensen with uncertain futures at Elland Road this summer, with none of them likely to be welcomed back into the fold by Daniel Farke.

Leeds asking price for Max Wober still too high for Gladbach

It had been reported before the start of the play-offs that Leeds had been confident they would actually be able to sell all of Harrison, Roca, Wober and Llorente permanently.

However, clearly in the case of the former two, their loan clubs are looking to take advantage of Leeds’ failure to win promotion by signing them temporarily again.

Given Leeds’ need to have paid off £73 million in unpaid transfer instalments by June 30, these clubs may have also been thinking the Whites’ defeat at Wembley would put them in a strong position at the negotiating table.

According to Kicker, though, that is not the case when it comes to Borussia Monchengladbach’s pursuit of Wober, with the £10m – £12m asking price still deemed as too high.

It has been reported for a while now that Gladbach may not have the financial capacity to meet Leeds’ demands, despite the fact he enjoyed a strong individual season, if the German press is anything to go by.

It is said that at this stage for Wober, it does not look as though he will be returning to Farke’s former club next season, which could make for an uncertain summer.

Leeds will be hoping Wober has done enough to earn interest elsewhere

Out of all the loan exits last summer, until Sinisterra’s late deadline day move to Bournemouth, it was Wober’s that left the sourest taste.

Wober had reportedly been keen on sticking around at Leeds to help the club win promotion back to the Premier League, having only joined a matter of months earlier from RB Salzburg.

However, as soon as the slightest bit of interest emerged, Wober made his desire to depart clear and so it is almost impossible to see a way back.

With the reports Leeds were confident he had done enough to leave permanently, hopefully there are other clubs out there aside from Gladbach who will take an interest in him this summer.
