Scottie Scheffler has had all charges against him dropped by Jefferson County to end the two-week-long legal saga involving golf's world No 1.
The Masters champion was taken away in handcuffs just hours before the second round of the PGA Championship earlier this month after allegedly dragging a police officer along the ground with his car.
He faced multiple charges which included second-degree assault of a police officer.
But Scheffler will not face any further legal action against him as Jefferson County Attorney Mike O'Connell said prosecutors were unable to move forward with the case.
"Based upon the totality of the evidence, my office can not move forward in the prosecution of the charges filed against Mr. Scheffler," O'Connell said.
"Mr. Scheffler's characterisation that this was a 'big misunderstanding' is corroborated by the evidence.
"The evidence we reviewed supports the conclusion that Detective [Brian] Gillis was concerned for public safety at the scene when he initiated contact with Mr. Scheffler.
"However, Mr. Scheffler's actions and the evidence surrounding their exchange during this misunderstanding do not satisfy the elements of any criminal offenses."
Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg announced last week that Scheffler's charges were not being dropped as they wanted to 'legal process to play out'.
Detective Bryan Gillis, who arrested Scheffler, was also reprimanded for failing to turn on his bodycam during the incident.
"Detective Gillis should have turned on his body-worn camera but did not," Police Chief Jacquelyn Gwinn-Villaroel said.
"His failure to do so is a violation of LMPD policy on uniforms and equipment.
"Detective Gillis was counselled by his supervisor.
"We understand the seriousness of the failure to capture this interaction, which is why our officer has received corrective action for this policy violation."
