'I can see': Ally McCoist says eight-goal Leeds star could join Premier League giant, Dortmund bid £25m last summer

Ally McCoist thinks one Leeds United star could end up at a top-six Premier League club this summer, and he was not talking about Crysencio Summerville or Archie Gray.

The duo have been strongly linked with moves to a big club in the Premier League or indeed, around Europe. Paraag Marathe has since commented on Gray’s future, not fully closing the door on his exit.

Summerville won The Championship’s Player of the Season award rightly, has plenty of suitors after his signature. Both are expected to be the subject of offers in the next few weeks and months at Leeds.

But another player could end up at one of the top six clubs in the Premier League, according to Ally McCoist. He claims that it could be Georginio Rutter that makes the step up to a big top-tier outfit.

McCoist thinks Georginio Rutter could join Premier League club

Rutter was superb for Leeds during the 2023-24 season, having a hand in 26 goals and earning a spot in The Championship’s Team of the Season alongside Ethan Ampadu and Summerville before the play-offs.

But it is a bit of a surprise that he has not actually been linked with any teams from the Premier League, thus far. Perhaps, it could be the club-record fee Leeds paid to sign him from Hoffenheim in January 2023.

McCoist though, told TalkSPORT this morning (29/05, 8:55AM): “I’m not sure it’ll be one of the top six but I can see him getting a move to the Premier League. Whether Leeds have to sell is a different issue.”

Rutter was linked to two big European giants last summer

Having joined Leeds from Hoffenheim for a fee believed to be in the region of £35m, Borussia Dortmund made a bid of £25m for Rutter just six months after he moved to Yorkshire, which was rightly rejected.

Dortmund could remain admirers given they will look to strengthen after reaching the Champions League final and in turn, will have cash to spend. Meanwhile, Rutter’s stock is higher than it was last summer.

Dortmund were not alone, with French giants Lyon looking at a deal for Rutter and opening talks in the final days of the summer window. But nothing materialised, and he looks set to remain at Elland Road.
