Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has claimed that a certain figure at Manchester City “recommended” Bayern Munich to appoint Vincent Kompany as their manager.
Kompany, who was at Burnley previously has been confirmed as the brand-new Bayern boss, as per the club’s official website.
The Manchester City legend has signed a contract until 2027 with the Bavarian giants.

The Belgian is replacing Thomas Tuchel, who left the club at the end of the season.
Karl-Heinz Rummenigge revealed via Sky Germany that Pep Guardiola suggested Bayern to appoint Vincent Kompany.
Rummenigge said: “It was Guardiola who recommended the choice.”
“He did us a great favour. He had him as captain at City and also followed him when he was at Burnley. Pep knows Vincent well and his opinion is very highly regarded by us.”
As Bayern supervisory board member Karl-Heinz Rummenigge stated, Pep Guardiola evidently holds Vincent Kompany in high regard — recently claiming that he will manage Manchester City one day via HaytersTV.

The 38-year-old has made a massive step up, going from a relegated Burnley side to one of the biggest clubs in world football.
The Clarets struggled upon gaining promotion to the Premier League, finishing the campaign with just 24 points during the 2023/2024 season.
For such a young manager, to be managing a club of the German team’s stature is a huge achievement in itself.
It seems like Karl-Heinz Rummenigge and the Bayern insiders were convinced by Vincent Kompany being a quality appointment due to the recommendation from Pep Guardiola.
Guardiola’s seal of approval is worth its weight in gold.
After all, even Chelsea look set to hire former Leicester City boss Enzo Maresca, who was Pep Guardiola’s assistant coach at Manchester City.
