Russian military personnel have started constructing protective hangars at an airfield located over 300 kilometers from the border with Ukraine, reports Militarnyi.

Construction of new hangar facilities has been spotted in satellite images at the Marinovka airfield, located in the Volgograd region of the Russian Federation, approximately 300 km from the border with Ukraine.

The satellite imagery reveals 12 new hangars, serving as shelters for frontline bombers Su-24 and bomber-fighters Su-34.

Russians believe that the expansion of hangar facilities is aimed at protecting aircraft from incoming drone strikes, as well as from submunitions of ATACMS ballistic missiles.

It's worth noting that the use of hangars prevents satellites and other optical devices from determining whether the hangar is empty or housing an aircraft. Although the materials used for the hangars are currently unknown, judging by their appearance, they likely provide minimal protection from shrapnel.

Earlier this year, we reported that Ukrainian defenders successfully destroyed enemy equipment hidden in hangars using attack drones.

We also reported that in addition to defensive structures, Russians are also creating fake aircraft. Last year, Russia painted fake MiGs at the Sevastopol airfield.
