Winston Recruitment

Michigan extended an offer to Winston last year and got him on campus for the first time this spring. The Wolverines impressed Winston with everything they have to offer and off the field and ascended as major players in his process.

Winston is now set to make an official visit to Michigan this weekend. He also has official visits scheduled with North Carolina, Oregon and Penn State.

Here is what Holland had to say about his recruitment.

“I think Michigan has done a really good job of selling scheme fit and culture fit,” Holland said. “The spring visit really moved the needle for him. He was really impressed with what Michigan had to offer from a development standpoint and an academic standpoint. He’s clicked well with the coaching staff as well. He likes Sherrone Moore, LaMar Morgan and Wink Martindale. He’s feeling more and more comfortable with Michigan. This official visit will tell us even more about Michigan’s chances to pry him away from Penn State. I just wish this visit was a little later. It always sucks to go first.”

Winston is expected to make his final decision following his four official visits.

Penn State is considered the leader on the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine with a 35.3 percent chance of landing him. Michigan is in third place with a 15.3 percent chance of landing him.

At 5-foot-10, 184 pounds, Winston is ranked as the No. 10 safety and No. 96 overall recruit nationally, per the On3 Industry Ranking. He is also ranked as the No. 1 overall recruit in Washington D.C. this cycle.

Michigan has five commits in its 2025 recruiting class — Top 100 Oak Park (Ill.) Fenwick defensive lineman Nate Marshall, On300 Fort Myers (Fla.) Bishop Verot quarterback Carter Smith, four-star Birmingham (Mich.) Groves offensive lineman Avery Gach, four-star Howell (Mich.) High defensive lineman Bobby Kanka and three-star Alcoa (Tenn.) High tight end Eli Owens.

The class is ranked No. 15 nationally, per the On3 Industry national team recruiting rankings, and No. 4 in the Big Ten behind Ohio State, USC and Oregon. Michigan is tied for the fewest number of commits in the conference. The Wolverines have an average recruit rating of 90.75.
