Liverpool star’s agent holds transfer talks amid fresh Anfield exit hint

A round-up of the latest Liverpool news as Enzo Raiola holds talks over a transfer for a Reds star and Gareth Southgate suggests how Jurgen Klopp truly saw Jarell Quansah.

Caoimhin Kelleher hints he could leave Liverpool to be a No1

Republic of Ireland goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher has hinted that he could now look to leave Liverpool. The 25-year-old believes it is time to make the next step in his career and become a No1. But with Alisson Becker between the sticks at Anfield, he knows his chances are slim.

Alisson is firmly Liverpool’s established first-choice shot-stopper as the 31-year-old is one of the world’s best. His positioning, reading of the game and reactions continually put Kelleher on Liverpool’s bench. Yet the Irishman’s content with being second-fiddle is starting to slide.

Injuries keeping Alisson out of the XI in 2023/24 let Kelleher make 26 of his 47 career senior appearances with Liverpool. Now, with his contract running to 2026 and Alisson’s until 2027, Kelleher has hinted that it might be time to part with Liverpool after nine seasons at Anfield.

Kelleher told The Athletic: “It would be great if that happened at Liverpool but I’m not silly. I know that Ali has been the best goalkeeper in the world for years. I’ve had such an amazing time at Liverpool.

“It’s been a crazy journey for me and one that I’ve absolutely loved. I love the club, I love the fans and I have a great relationship with the players and the staff. Whether it’s here at Liverpool or somewhere else, I do feel the next step for me is to be a No1.”

Gareth Southgate thinks Jarell Quansah has some ‘great attributes’

England boss Gareth Southgate feels Jarell Quansah has some ‘great attributes’ and is keen to see how the Liverpool defender steps up to senior international football. He has included the 21-year-old in the Three Lions’ provisional 33-man squad for this summer’s Euro 2024.

Quansah has featured regularly with England at the youth level with caps from the Under-15 to U21 levels. Southgate now wants to see what the centre-half could offer in Germany after breaking through at Anfield. Quansah got his debut as Liverpool beat Newcastle last August.

Jurgen Klopp further trusted Quansah to play 33 times during the 2023/24 season across all competitions. He even played 17 times in the Premier League, despite starting 2023 on loan to Bristol Rovers. And the way that Quansah adapted to the top-flight impressed Southgate.

“Jarell had a super season for Liverpool,” Southgate told England’s official YouTube channel. “You have only got to see the games which his manager picked him for.

“He was in the team and a couple of other high-profile players weren’t in that position. That was a sign of how well Jurgen thought he was doing.

“He has had an amazing transition this season from a loan spell further down the leagues and adapted to life in the Premier League well. He has some great attributes as a centre-back, so we are looking forward to seeing him.”

AC Milan have informed Enzo Raiola of their interest in agreeing to a transfer from Liverpool for Ryan Gravenberch. That is according to Calciomercato, which reports that the Rossoneri expressed a great appreciation for the 22-year-old who only moved to Anfield in September.

San Siro chiefs have long sought to sign Gravenberch but lost out to Bayern Munich when he left AFC Ajax. Now, the economic conditions that Liverpool would want are likely to price the Serie A side out. But AC Milan intend to hold further discussions with Raiola about a swoop.

AC Milan met Raiola in recent days to begin laying the foundations for their summer targets. Chief scout Geoffrey Moncada and chairman Giorgio Furlani are eager to be able to hit the ground running once Paulo Fonseca arrives to replace Stefano Pioli as their latest manager.
