'Sticks out': Phil Foden names the game in 2023/24 he felt the Man City fans were at their absolute loudest

Manchester City won a fourth straight Premier League title in 2023/24 – and Phil Foden has now shared the game he feels the travelling fans were at their loudest.

It was another successful season for City, as they won the league ahead of Arsenal after a strong challenge from the Gunners.

Prior to making history by winning a fourth straight title, City also won the UEFA Super Cup and the Club World Cup.

City could not have had the success they had without the support of the fans. The Citizens faithful were superb once again in 2023/24 and one of the team’s stars is particularly grateful.

Phil Foden, who was named the Etihad Player of the Season, after winning the FWA and Premier League equivalents, has been speaking about the fans in a new interview – and he suggested when he felt they were at their loudest…

Foden sat down with City’s media team to reflect on the 2023/24.

He firmly believes that it was his best season to date, and many will agree with him on that. The 24-year-old scored 27 across all competitions, and also produced 12 assists.

Foden was simply brilliant, and really stepped up in the absence of Kevin De Bruyne. But he continued his amazing form even after the Belgian returned from injury.

Foden played a huge part in City’s latest title win, with Alan Shearer even describing him as ‘unplayable’ at times. But it is not lost on him how important the fans were throughout the season.

He was asked about the fact he always makes a point of thanking the travelling fans at away games, and Foden then suggested he was particularly impressed by the support the team got against Tottenham Hotspur.

He said (via mancity.com): “They’ve been so loud. Tottenham away sticks out for me I could hear them all game.

“It’s just nice because it gives you confidence and makes you want to go out there and perform for the fans.”

City fans played their part

It is nice to hear Foden acknowledging the fans for the part they played in 2023/24, because without them City may not have edged Arsenal in the title race.

You get the feeling that Foden especially responds well to the support of the crowd, being an academy product. You get the sense that he feels immense pride, and wants to everybody back.

City were not at their best in the game away at Tottenham.

But as Foden says, the fans were certainly very loud and between their support, Erling Haaland being clinical and Stefan Ortega’s two big saves, City took three very big points.
