Finance expert claims 'data' now reveals extent of Arsenal summer transfer spending power

A sport finance expert has now revealed what Arsenal will be capable of in the upcoming summer transfer window.

Arsenal are set for a busy summer in the transfer market.

Mikel Arteta will be keen to add to his squad ahead of next season. The North London club need to strengthen in several key areas, with additions being targeted in a number of key positions.

Arsenal are also planning to move on several players in an effort to raise funds and make room for new arrivals. Arteta recognises that he needs to take his squad to the next level if his side are to surpass Manchester City next season.

Arsenal spending set to continue this summer

The club have shown a willingness to back Arteta in the market in recent windows, as sporting director Edu has been granted license to spend freely. Last summer, the club shelled out a record fee of £105 million to secure the services of Declan Rice. They also invested £65 million in Kai Havertz.

Prior to that, £50 million was spent to prise Ben White away from Brighton and Hove Albion, whilst Gabriel Jesus cost £45 million. The club even invested £34 million in Fabio Vieira, who had yet to prove himself at the highest level, having enjoyed just a couple of seasons as a first team regular for Porto before making the move to the Emirates Stadium.

The Gunners are now well-placed to spend big again. According to sport finance expert Dr Dan Plumley, speaking to The Express: “If you look into the data we can see, Liverpool and Arsenal are two clubs who can always spend if they want to. We know that Arsenal spent significantly last summer but they could do again if they choose to.”

Why Mikel Arteta and Edu are trusted to spend wisely at Arsenal

This suggests that Arsenal won’t be hampered in the market this summer, and will have the financial muscle to push for their top targets. Edu has already confirmed that Arsenal have their key targets identified.

The Brazilian and Arteta have earned the right to be trusted with the club’s finances in this regard. The vast majority of their investments have paid off. They have a clear idea of what is needed to improve the squad and can be relied upon to do their due diligence when vetting potential new arrivals.

The importance of making smart decisions in the transfer market can scarcely be overstated. The ramifications of overpaying for players who then underperform can be felt within a club for years to come.
